Pointillism Creates a Big Picture of Small Pieces

Pointillism art is the technique of using small dots of various colour or contrast and depth to create a larger image.  Here, Stockholm-based artist Philip Karlberg uses the format to create celebrity portraits who are known for their eyewear choices.

Spectacle Presents: Our Favourite Things

The Spectacle staff want to share some of our favourite things with you.  Today's staff pick from Kelly is The Silver Linings Playbook.  The book is narrated through Pat Peoples, who moves back into his family home after spending time in a neurology hospital.  Pat thinks he has only been away for a few months, however upon realizing it has actually been years, he struggles to get his life memories together.

The film adaptation of the novel was nominated for 8 Academy Awards with Jennifer Lawrence winning for Best Actress.  Pick up a copy of The Silver Linings Playbook to read this week and look for more of our favourite things coming soon!

Spectacle Celebrates The Leafs with Limited Edition Sunglasses!

Today is the first Leafs home playoff game in years and Spectacle is getting in the hockey spirit with custom made, limited edition blue mirrored Taru & Koli shades!  They're perfect to wear while you're watching the game at Maple Leaf Square or just to top off your blue and white outfit.

Sneaker Culture at the Bata Shoe Museum

On April 25^th, the Bata Shoe Museum opened their latest exhibition, Out of the Box: The Rise of Sneaker Culture. Out of the Box is the first North American exhibition to showcase the history of sneaker culture and features over 120 sneakers representing the past 150 years. Recognizable sneakers from rap legends Run DMC, sneaker guru Bobbito Garcia aka Kool Bob Love and Dee Wells from OSD are also featured gems. A particular highlight is the handpicked sneakers and sketches by Nike designers Tinker Hatfield, Tobie Hatfield, Mark Smith and Eric Avar. 

The exhibition is open now until March 30, 2014.

Persol Presents "Atelier Persol", The Upcoming Ad Campaign

Persol's new ad campaign, Atelier Persol, is a unique idea created among eight pioneers from different fields of art.  According to Persol, "A 15th century manor was rented in the Tuscan hills of Florence where a creative theme was assigned to eight suites which artists were invited to let themselves loose in... the pioneers have been called to cope with a new artistic challenge: to reinterpret a value from the creative process of a pair of Persol according to their style, sensitivity, and beliefs."  You can view the trailer below.
