Moscot Movie Month Goes Out With Style

All good things must come to an end and so to must our Moscot Movie Month.
Jeff our head optician came up with one of his personal top flicks to cap off our own little film fest.

And of course Moscot has us covered with the perfect pair of shades for the Shark or Jet in anyone.

The Nebb, in sunglass form is as classic as this mulitple(10) Oscar winning movie If you thought this frame was hot in its normal colors or limited edition colors check it out as a sunglass, its finger popping cool

Thanks to the fine folks at Moscot for all the internet love they've thrown our way this month. Spectacle Loves You Too.

Now Magazine Loves Moscot.

Looks like our Moscot movie month and subsequent window display is catching on.

Now Magazine had a great article by Andrew Sardone in the style section this week all about Moscot's Nebb model.

Here is what Andrew had to say....
We have a hard time imagining fashionable faces without chunky, geek-chic frames, but someone needs to freshen up those ubiquitous Buddy Holly specs for spring. New York City eyewear institution Moscot is on the case, lighting the way with its limited-edition Nebb glasses available in pastel yellow and turquoise acetate. $300, Spectacle, 752 Queen West, 416-603-0123, and others, spectaclelovesyou.com.

Good timing on this article too as we just swapped up the movie we are screening again. Emma is up this time and she picked a classic New York musical, Guys and Dolls staring a couple of guys that know a thing or two about style. Frank Sintra and Marlon Brando

As it says in the poster "gentleman prefer blonde's" so behold the limited edition(only 200 worldwide) Moscot Nebb in Golden Blonde.

Perfect for any guy or doll looking to add something classic to their wardrobe and avaialbe by viewing at any of our locations because Spectacle Loves You.

Gold Anyone?

Olympic decathlete and Commonwealth gold medal champion Mike Smith was in recently and we outfitted him with our signature O.P. colab Connolly sunglass. Mike was also kind enough to let us snap a few pics of him in our favourite pair of shades.

You can catch more of our favourite decathlete on the CBC doing color commentary for track & field events.

To Mike and all Canadian Olympic athletes past and present, thank you and remember...Spectacle loves you!!

Moscot Movie Month Continues

The time has come to switch up our in store movie.

We all had a good time with Small Time Crooks. Thanks to Esther for that pick.

Next up is Janice and her choice of Gray Gardens. For those of you unfamiliar with this title it is the true life story of Edith "Big Edie" Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith "Little Edie" Bouvier Beale who were the aunt and first cousin of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. The two women lived together at Grey Gardens for decades with limited funds, resulting in squalor and almost total isolation.

In case you were wondering how this ties into us here at Spectacle and our NY themed movie month, well the answer my friend is two fold.

One, you will notice that Jessica Lane who plays "Big Edie" is wearing a Moscot Lemtosh through out the film and on the cover/poster.

Also the movie features one of our very own, that's right Spectacle client and international film and TV actor Arnold Pinnock plays a police deputy in the film.
Here's Arnold looking suave in a head shot.

And since this movie takes place in The Hamptons which has been a get-away for New Yorkers for years we felt it was an all around winner of a pick.

Come by the Queen Store and check out the flick and the Moscot's and remember Spectacle Loves You

For those of you new to ic! Berlin, take a look at their runway from this January's Fashion week in Berlin.
Thanks Ralph...Spectacle Loves You!!

Spectacle Loves Gucci Eyeweb

Gucci is stepping into 2010 in a very modern way

They have launched a new micro site and mini line called Gucci Eyeweb.

The website includes sections for such cities as Tokyo, Paris, Berlin, New York etc etc where people can post photos of themselves living the good life in these frames. We were just as surprised as you that Toronto wasn't included, looks like we have to turn up the party in the big smoke.

Since we are big on letting things speak for themselves, here is the concept for this collection straight from the mouth of designer Frida Giannini

Gucci Eyeweb consists of two models, to debut in early spring. The male model carries a single iconic G, while the female model carries the Gucci iconic double GG. Each model is distinguished by the signature green and red stripes of the iconic Gucci web, which together with the “world wide web” inspired the new product’s moniker.

“I designed these sunglasses and the accompanying social networking site with today's digital generation in mind. I hope that they will both enjoy wearing them and 'reflecting and connecting' their own creativity with their friends around the world,"

And since a picture is worth a thousand words here are the product shots for eyeweb.

Gucci Eyeweb is available at our Queen St store and by viewing at our other two locations, because Spectacle Loves You

We already covered the press release for this line on a previous post still, to get y'all excited here is a look at the logo for the line

I Love NY and Moscots

To help the Queen St staff (and everybody else) cope with the February blues we came up with a pretty stellar window display/concept this month.

The line featured is Moscot the Spectacle exclusive brand that started in Manhattan's lower east side way back in 1915.

Take a look at some of these old school photos of the original Moscot store we had specially made just for this display.

To show our appreciation for all things NYC we will be screening various movies with a big apple theme, selected by the staff for the whole month.

Esther is up first after Darren's unfortunate renting mishap. Showing this week is her choice of Woody Allen's Small Time Crooks.

We all loved this pick because really if there are two things Woody knows best its New York and glasses.

So drop by the Queen St store try on some Moscot's and don't forget to bring the popcorn.

Spectacle influences GQ's 25 Most Stylish Men

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Well when flipping through Gentlemen’s Quarterly and their 25 most stylish men of 2010 list we couldn't help but start blushing a little. Spectacle and our proverbial "Spectacle Style" is all over the thing.

First example: Lebron James.

GQ credits "The King" for his well put together wardrobe including his fashionable geek chic Dita Grandmaster eye glasses. We here at Spectacle have been hip to Dita and all its greatness for a while now. In fact we just expanded the line to all three of our locations for your shopping convenience.

Second Example: Jay Z

GQ is all over Hova and his trademark "Daddy B" shades from Oliver Peoples much the same way we were back when they first came out. These guys are hard to keep in the shop but have no fear we can outfit you in dark shades from any number of the lines that we carry.

Third Example: Pharrell

GQ credits Mr Williams for bringing back the "American Prep" movement, we can't help but feel like we had a small part in that with the custom Spectacle lenses we did for him when he was in town with Jay Z on Halloween.

Thanks GQ for helping preach the Spectacle gospel, Spectacle Loves You for it.
