Art Installations from Around the Globe

While art installations and galleries can be a snooze fest, here are a few interesting, eye appealing installations from around the world that are far from boring.

Exhibit created by visual artist, Ernesto Neto

"Fireflies on the Water" by Yayoi Kasama creates the illusion using various mirrors, lights, plexiglass, and water

"Turbo" installation created by Baptiste Debombourg

"Wastelandscape", created by French artist Elise Morin & architect Clemence Eliard, features
65,000 old CDs hand-sewn together into a 500-square metre surface
Art is everywhere, and every piece is bizarrely beautiful and ingeniously made.

Gareth Pugh x Chrome Hearts Collaboration

Experimental British designer Gareth Pugh and Los Angeles-based Chrome Hearts have teamed up on a new collaboration.  Based on three looks from Pugh's collection, the collaboration includes clothing and accessories like shoes and gloves.

The idea came from the mutual respect of craftsmanship and a commitment to product integrity.  According to Pugh himself, "it's the kind of hand done element that exists within the pieces... it's the love of craft that is the thing that actually makes sense between us".

The collaboration is set to launch in January.  If you also love Chrome Hearts eyewear, be sure to stop by Spectacle soon to view our entire collection!

On Thursday, November 21st, a crowd of young creatives in Toronto joined forces to attend a fundraiser for Typhoon Relief in the Philippines, which took place at Hotel Ocho (195 Spadina). Through their collective efforts, they managed to raise over $4000 which was immediately donated to Global Medic on the ground relief work. Every dollar given was helpful as all proceeds were matched by the Government of Canada.

Supporters were asked to donate at least $10 at the door and were able to shop around Hotel Ocho's two-story loft-style lobby as their favourite local shops set up individual booths. A huge appreciation goes out to those who have contributed their time, skills, products and money to help make this event a successful one, including: Hotel OchoNomadBlue Button ShopLost and FoundMIJLOIMM LivingAcquired Taste, and many more. Spectacle also took part in this fundraiser and donated a $150 giftcard.

We continue to keep the Philippines in our thoughts.

New RETRO SUPER FUTURE flagship store opens in NYC

Founded in 2006, Italian eyewear brand, RETRO SUPER FUTURE, officially opened their global flagship store in New York City last week in the SoHo district. The interior of the store was designed by none other than the SUPER team by creative architect, Andrea Caputo. The cold, industrial, open space contrasts beautifully with the warm, red-brick walls, natural light and light-grain wood tables and furniture — offering a minimalistic, comfortable and inviting space.

The brand's entire sunglass and optic collection is showcased neatly throughout the perfectly lined tables, accompanied by their individual respective cases. The shop offers easy access for viewing — giving each client the opportunity to feel, examine and try on the product.

If you're from Toronto and are unable to make a trip to NYC to grab a hold of SUPERS, swing by Spectacle's flagship store located at 752 Queen St. West to view our collection.
