COCA-COLA CANADA HQ - ART & DESIGN

Coca-Cola's newly renovated space is
located at 335 King St. East and it's pretty sweet. It's right on the busy and lively streets of King Street, packed with culture, good eats and great shops. It's also walking distance to the Historic Distillery District and St. Lawrence Market. The building is a three-story glass addition, including a street-level reception area, built above the red brick Toronto Sun newspaper building. Figure3 Interior Design designed the 105,000 square foot modernized space for a staff of 400.  UmbraUnilever, and Warner Bros. Entertainment also took part in the architectural branding.

In an elevator lobby, a logo carved into quarter-sewn Douglas fir paneling compliments a hanging made completely from Coca-Cola bottle caps. The
red and silver bottle caps are linked Paco Rabanne chain-mail style, and each of the Navy 111 chairs in the cafeteria lounge is made by Emeco from 111 recycled PET plastic Coke bottles. Talk about real organic material why don't cha!

One side of the
atrium space showcases a creative mural of a Coca-Cola delivery truck that starts as paint on gypsum-boards and ends as vinyl film on the glass front of a private telephone room. This gigantic mural piece serves as a vertical billboard that combines backlit digital photography with an LED video screen for motion graphics. Talk about cool and high-tech!

Awesome, fun space to check out if ever you get a chance!

DOUBLE DOT MAGAZINE- PRINCE- PURPLE RAIN PHOTO SHOOT

Spectacle prides itself in taking part in various magazine print and online outlets when it comes to commercial and editorial photo shoots. It allows for our team to work closely with other stylist in and around the city, who are immersed in a wide range of media outlets. For instance, Spectacle has recently done a stylist pull for Double Dot Magazine who were shooting a Minneapolis/ Prince inspired photo shoot during the "Purple Rain" era (1983-1985).

Prince-esque eyewear wasn't hard to find... For the first look, we went for an ic! Berlin style, model Zeder, in a rose gold colourway. It’s a light (surgical steel) classic round shape with a flashy gold finish, accented by a modern vintage rose gradient tint.

For the second look, we chose the Linda Farrow x The Row 8 (established by Ashley and Mary-Kate Olson) model in a grey/brown gradient acetate. It has an oversized, bold, round shape with a vintage inspired translucent acetate, accompanied by a solid lens.

The photo shoot was styled by stylist and creative director, Robert “Bobby” Bowenn (@bobbybowenn), and shot by the talented photographer, Sarah Elisabeth Blais (@sarahelisabethblais)

The images are set to release next month in their November issue (Issue no. 4). In the mean time, enjoy these behind the scene teaser photos provided by Elle Elaine (@ElleElaine), Bobby Bowenn (@BobbyBowenn), and Sarah Elisabeth Blais (@sarahelisabethblais) via their Instagram accounts.

Be on the look out for it! Oh, and make sure to visit Spectacle's flagship shop on West Queen West and our newly renovated Distillery District shop for the eyewear used in this photo shoot!

The OYGEN has a history behind the name...

MOSCOT prides themselves on their rich family history in the optical field and it shows through in their designs. The GLICK model's name originated from Great Aunt Ruth who referred to close friends and family as "the glick" of her heart to show affection.  Similarly, the OYGEN got its name from the term Dr. Moscot called "eyes" back in the day.  The personal touches MOSCOT uses in their designs are what really set them apart from other eyewear brands.

The MARILYN

The styles also include brand new colour ways and vintage tones.  Spectacle is one of the exclusive stockist for MOSCOT in Toronto, so if you're in town stop by one of our three locations to check out their entire collection!

The Yonge Lawrence Village BIA Artwalk is on Now!

Artwalk is an annual event in the Yonge Lawrence neighbourhood.  The promotion partners local artists with shops to collaborate on a window display celebrating the community.  This year, we have partnered with Lenore Paulin-Janes to create a window using her photographs and our colourful eyewear.

Colourful Taru & Koli eyewear is also used in the display

Lenore has turned her meticulous Interior Designer and artistic painter's eye to the camera lens to capture beautiful, graceful close-up portraits of nature - particularly botanicals.  Like her paintings, her photography is custom and are original images that radiate bold, bright, and vibrant colours.

All of Lenore's pieces can be bought from her website - see store for more details

The event runs now until November 7th.  You can vote for Spectacle's display by visiting the BIA website and choosing us.  You will also be entered to win a Yonge Lawrence BIA $50 giftcard.  A special thanks to Lenore for collaborating with us on the display and be sure to check it out soon!

Todd Snyder + Champion Collaboration Launch

Todd Snyder at the Launch

Popular Toronto denim shop, Over the Rainbow in Yorkville, transitioned into what seemed like a men’s college locker room back in the early ‘90s during the showcase of the Todd Snyder + Champion collaboration collection last Thursday. A display of vintage baseball tees, rugged football jerseys, dented helmets, chipped baseball bats, rundown baseball gloves, creased vintage Converse, and a classic IOWA varsity jacket set the mood.

Vintage styled sports attire

“I always really appreciated Champion and I really wanted to do something interesting with them. They’re a great, iconic American brand that nobody has really done anything with... This is like a dream come true”. Snyder eventually revamped men’s fashion and introduced formal, tailored elements with a series of collaborations with heritage brands.

Decor surrounding Over the Rainbow during the event

With high quality craftsmanship, military tailoring, and a New York state of mind, Snyder’s line has stirred up a wide commercial praise in North America. He was also named one of GQ’s Best New Menswear Designers, and nominated for the Council of Fashion Designers in America (CFDA) Swarovski Award.

Vintage football helmet

When asked about the future of Todd Snyder, he hinted that more collaborations are a definite possibility.  “I really love collaborating because it really challenges me in a different way— It makes me feel fresh and new and it really inspires me”.

Thom Browne Partners With Zac Posen & GILT to Design the Infiniti Q50 Sedan

Eyewear and fashion designer Thom Browne has taken on a new endeavor - car design.  Thom Browne was asked to design a car from inside out just as he would design a clothing line.

The cars are priced at $75,000 and begin going on sale Thursday, December 12th.  A portion of the sales will also be donated towards St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.  If you're not in the market for a new vehicle, the designer also created special edition card holders coming out soon that are meant to mimic the car's chrome design.

The card holder will be chrome just like the car

Shots from the car's interior

The seats feature Thom Browne's signature red, white, and blue stripe

Check out the video below for some more information including interviews with the designers.  Stop by Spectacle soon to view our Thom Browne eyewear selections!
